Building a QuickLap canoe assumes a very basic knowledge of woodworking and boatbuilding, as well as a familiarity with boatbuilding terms. If you need to learn the fundamentals of boatbuilding, or just want to learn more, I've included a list of books that I think are particularly good. Many of them can be found in your local library, or can be bought from International Marine Publishing or the WoodenBoat Store.

Many libraries also have back issues of WoodenBoat, Messing about in Boats, Watercraft, and Fine Woodworking magazines, all of which contain a wealth of good information;

Devlin's Boat Building, by Samual Devlin, McGraw-Hill

Although focusing on the stitch-and-glue method of building boats, it has a lot of good information on using epoxy

Featherweight Boatbuilding, by Mac McCarthy, WoodenBoat Books

An excellent book on strip plank canoe building, with several nice sections about using your boat. Very enjoyable reading!

Good Skiffs, by Karl Stambaugh, Devereux Books

If you decide to continue with boatbuilding, this is a really nice book on the most popular and easy to build type of boat of all, the skiff. Lots of examples by many designers, including the author

The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction, by the Gougeon Bros., Inc.

Published by the W.E.S.T. System epoxy people, this is a very thorough manual on the use of epoxy, with sections on different types of boatbuilding

Rushton and His Times in American Canoeing, by Atwood Manley, Syracuse University Press

A history of the father of lapstrake, double-paddle canoe building

Ultralight Boatbuilding , by Tom Hill, International Marine Publishing Co
